Overcoming Regulatory Barriers

October 6, 2022 marked the Patientory Data Liberation Day! Under federal rules taking effect today, health care organizations must give patients unfettered access to their full health records in digital format. No more long delays. No more fax machines. No more exorbitant charges for printed pages…The American Revolution had July 4. The allies had D-Day. And now U.S. patients, held down for decades by information hoarders, can rally around a new turning point, October 6, 2022 — the day they got their health data back.” Will Web3 blockchain based technologies usher in a new era of healthcare?

“The health care industry may be able to succeed where Wall Street has not. If successful, the resulting disruption could change the way companies in the health care sector deliver their services.”

This is just one of the wins Patientory overcomed in 2022 in regards to US Federal Regualtions.

In early 2022, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, in partnership with the Health Resources and Service Administration, conducted a roundtable on “Community Connected Stakeholder Engagement.” This roundtable culminated into the “Community Connected Health Stakeholder Engagement Summary Report.” As part of the roundtable, innovative entities and startups such as Patientory, Inc were selected to offer invaluable insight as to how to best move forward in creating a more equitable digital health tech future.

Patientory’s vision aligns with the vision and ultimate goal of the community healthtech roundtable and report as it connects players in the healthcare ecosystem through a matrix that furthers accessibility for patients and interoperability for providers and healthcare entities.

The “Community Connected Stakeholder Engagement Summary Report” identifies key takeaways from the roundtable that both allude to what the invitees are doing NOW for healthcare equity and what they are building toward for the future. Patientory, for example, is working toward seamless integration within the healthcare ecosystem so that there is greater ease of big tech adoption and enhanced accessibility for care for patients and users (report takeaway/theme). This is accomplished within the Patientory ecosystem through both Neith and the Patientory user app, which ensures that the community member/user is a key stakeholder in the healthcare decision-making process (report takeaway/theme). Both components of Patientory’s ecosystem, whether targeted toward providers or patients, ensures that real-time, actionable data be returned to both parties so that timely health interventions and monitoring can be delivered / conducted.

Ultimately, Patientory and the other entities invited to the White House’s roundtable are working toward a sustainable model, which can push healthcare delivery toward ease and interoperability, whether at a large hospital conglomerate or a community hospital.

A Lesson in Digital Health: Pandemic Tracking and Reporting

Pandemic Tracking and Reporting is a program designed to track, monitor and report on the exposure of disease among the population. It is generally used by public health officials, healthcare volunteers, aid organizations, corporations and individuals. In the event of an outbreak it provides the most up-to-date insight into the outbreak at hand which will inform a more rapid response plan.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that at least 100,000 people die every year due to infectious diseases, including 50,000 deaths from influenza and 10,000 deaths from bacterial pneumonia. Pandemic tracking and reporting help you understand where disease is coming from and how it is spreading across borders. It is a way to protect yourself, your region, or even the world from a potentially contagious epidemic.

Patientory dApp features to track and report the pandemic include:

  1. Important and useful information notifications right in your app
  2. Storing personal data about vaccinations and reminders for the next vaccination
  3. Digital vaccination record card, taking your data everywhere you go!

InsurTech NY 2022 Spring Conference: Digital First or Customer First?

InsurTech NY is hosting its annual spring conference to bring together the insurance innovators and InsurTech leaders to NYC. The conference will feature speakers from insurance carriers and brokers making strides in innovation and InsurTech startups that have shaken up the industry.

The conference will help answer the age-old question: should insurers focus on going digital-first or being customer-first. During the first wave of the internet revolution, Silicon Valley Tech Companies focused purely on digital-first. The result was a glut of Dot Coms with no customers to buy their products. We all know how that ended.

2022 Competition Finalist

InsurTech NY will be hosting its Global InsurTech competition during the conference. We are super excited to be selected as one of the finalists among hundreds of companies chosen for solution to forge the Insurance industry into the future!

Meet our Team at Venue

The conference will be hosted on March 7, 2022 at the New York Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Located on Broadway and West 46th Street. Meet our Founder & CEO, Chrissa McFarlane at the event to discuss Patientory and its offerings. You can also reach out through our email at info@patientory.com

Winner of the MedX@Düsseldorf Startup Competition 2021

Special Thanks to The Office of Economic Development Düsseldorf for the invitation to exhibit at MEDICA – Leading International Trade Fair and for organizing the glorious networking event with local authorities of commerce and healthcare in Germany.

Germany, like many countries in Europe, is undergoing a healthcare technology maturation. In late 2019 the German  parliament passed the Digital Healthcare Act (Digitale-Versorgung-Gesetz-DVG).  This act aims to bring their health systems to compete with the changing digital technology landscape and increase the number of digital therapeutics, or Digital health applications (DiGA). 86% of the apps that have been submitted for approval have been made in Germany with 4% in the US and New Zealand. It’s estimated the German government could save as much as 9.6 billion euros on the digitization of their health data.

One of the most important aspects of the DVG is the “prescribable applications” designation.  Apps, software, and other digital health measures can be put through a fast-track review process and if they are approved can be added to a list where they can be prescribed by doctors and therapists.  If there is not any available evidence, the app can be put on a yearlong trial.  After twelve months in the trial system, they can be added to the permanent list if those positive effects have been shown.  More importantly, any costs run up by those digital health measures can be covered in part or in full by Germany’s national health system.  There is currently legislation in place to develop a parallel system of nursing apps that will support those taking care of the elderly at home.

The advantages of DVG legislation for both the app builders and the app users is clear.  Developers can more easily find new clients and thus grow their business; clients/users don’t have to worry about paying for any costs that result from using it.  Health care providers and other health care industry workers have a wealth of data at their hands they can use to track various drugs, treatments, and health-related data.  The evaluation process itself provides another benefit for data collection: since the app has already had to pass certain standards of effectiveness, there is a baseline level of evidence the data from the app has had to meet.  Currently, 24 apps have been judged to meet the standard.  An estimated 50 thousand prescriptions for those apps have been made since November 2021.

Until 2021, health data in Germany did not have to be digital.  New legislation passed in 2021 year mandates that all health records be made available digitally. Hospitals, doctors, and pharmacies will also be required to connect to a nationally available digital infrastructure.  They will also be given a greater percentage of funds if prescriptions are given as e-prescriptions rather than paper ones.

By 2025 the digital health market in Germany is estimated to have grown to 57 Billion Euros.  Please watch our Founder & CEO, Chrissa McFarlane interview at Medica 2021 event. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6wumd39Mac
